Susan Young has worked in higher education since 1984, holding various administrative and faculty roles. Initially, she was a field archaeologist specializing in plant remains. She analyzed botanical remains from archaeological sites across Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, and Arizona. Her work helped reconstruct past environmental conditions and prehistoric subsistence strategies of early Native American cultures.

Educational Impact at Weber State and Beyond

In 1988, Susan joined Weber State University, contributing to both the Anthropology and Botany departments. She conducted field research in the tropical rainforests of Guatemala and Belize, documenting Maya herbal medicinals and shamanism. Susan currently teaches Plants in Human Affairs/Ethnobotany in the Botany department.

Global Experience and Executive Roles

Susan also served as an executive at Tutami Learning in Shanghai, China, where she developed training materials for students entering the American higher education system. Her career has spanned over 20 countries, primarily in Latin America, exploring ancient religions, shamanism, and archaeology.

Transition to Rubicon Construction Education

In the summer of 2021, Susan began collaborating with Chris Wilson at Rubicon Construction Education. They worked together to pioneer educational lessons in up-and-coming Alternative Delivery methods. When Chris formed Rubicon Construction Education in 2022, Susan took on the full-time role of Executive Director. Working alongside Chris, she developed curricula, wrote scripts, and produced videos that are now core components of RCE’s educational offerings.

Susan is enthusiastic about the potential of Rubicon Construction Education as a transformative force in today’s competitive construction market. She looks forward to continuing to evolve her career in this innovative educational landscape.
